The Left Party in Sävsjö has had to start over from scratch ahead of the municipal election. After the previous municipal list was withdrawn due to widely discussed social media posts, the party has now appointed a new board and established an entirely new list with eight candidates. Seven of the eight have Arabic names, and the top name, a newly arrived Arab migrant, is now telling the Swedish people how Sweden should be.
“Sweden is heading in the wrong direction,” he says.

The extraordinary annual meeting was held in Sävsjö this week and practically meant a fresh start for the local Left Party association. All eight people on the new list are new as political candidates, and according to the party’s district leadership, none of them are known to have previously held any position of trust within the Left Party.

The background to the sudden reorganization is the turbulence that has affected the Left Party in Sävsjö recently. It began with an investigation by Expressen earlier this year, where the newspaper identified a large number of Left Party candidates who, among other things, expressed support for the terrorist groups Hamas and Hezbollah, denied or downplayed the Holocaust, and spread antisemitic messages on social media.

After that, further revelations followed, including for the Left Party in Sävsjö, where the entire municipal list was scrapped.

The party thus needed to quickly build a new local organization and come up with a new list ahead of the election. The district organization also stepped in to assist the local association with the work, partly because there was little time to screen and gather candidates.

V Sävsjö Becomes an Arab Party

The new list consists of eight people, all of whom are new as candidates. Seven of them have Arabic names. A Swedish name appears far down on the list.

The new top name, Ahmad Alhindy, is 29 years old and came to Sweden from Damascus, Syria, in 2014. He currently lives in Sävsjö with his wife and children and has trained as a computer engineer.

While waiting for a job in IT, the Arab man supports himself by working as a transportation driver. The newly arrived migrant believes that Sweden is “heading in the wrong direction” with the Tidö government in power.

“Politics is new to me, but I think Sweden is going in the wrong direction and I felt that it’s time to try to change the situation,” Ahmad Alhindy told SVT.

Despite lacking previous political experience, he now has significant responsibility for the local party association, while also being at the top of the list for the municipal council.

He also describes his political engagement based on his own background and says that he wants to help create a more positive image of people who have come to Sweden from other countries.

“As a foreigner, I also want to help create a better image of foreigners. Sweden is my homeland and we care about it,” Ahmad Alhindy told SVT.

The party currently has one seat in Sävsjö’s municipal council. Previously there was hope of doubling their representation to two seats, but that goal is no longer relevant. Kristoffer Wolke, one of two district chairmen of the Left Party in Jönköping County, participated in the meeting.

“We had hopes of two but we have scrapped that goal. What has happened has not benefited us,” Wolke told Smålands Dagblad.

Jomshof: “Population Replacement”

Senior Sweden Democrat politician Richard Jomshof has commented on the news about the Left Party’s new municipal list in Sävsjö. In an ironic statement, he writes that there is no population replacement going on.
