An incident in Birmingham has sparked strong criticism of police conduct after a white man was arrested in connection with a violent altercation where three black teenagers are suspected of attacking him.
The incident, which was caught on video and widely circulated on social media, shows the white man on the ground after being pushed or struck by the three teenagers. However, when police arrive, their intervention is directed at the man lying on the ground, while the suspected attackers are not initially detained.
According to reports, the man was arrested on suspicion of disorderly conduct after attempting to confront the youths during the attack. Police later announced that one of the teenagers had also been arrested on suspicion of assault.

The video has sparked an intense online debate, with many questioning police priorities. Critics argue that the body camera footage creates the impression that officers focused on arresting the person who appears to be the victim, while the suspected attackers were initially allowed to leave the scene.
The incident has been described as yet another example of police conduct being criticized for misjudging the situation. Others argue that the short video clip circulating on social media does not necessarily show the entire course of events and that police may have had information on site that has not yet been made public.

Questions About Police Conduct
The case has once again raised questions about police decision-making during rapidly escalating disturbances. Legal experts note that an initial intervention does not necessarily determine who is later assessed as suspect or victim, but critics argue that public trust is at risk when the police’s immediate actions are perceived as inconsistent with apparent video evidence.
The similarities with the Henry Nowak case are obvious.
The police have yet to provide a complete explanation as to why the white man was immediately arrested at the scene while only one of the suspected teenagers was later detained. The investigation continues.
The incident has been reviewed, and we have no concerns over the officer's actions and we are satisfied that they were reasonable and proportionate in the circumstances.
We would ask that footage is not further shared to allow the legal process to take its course.— Birmingham Police (@BrumPolice) July 2, 2026
