A school student in eastern Germany, near the Polish border, was subjected to a brutal group assault outside his school on Wednesday. Around ten youths surrounded the boy before they began beating and kicking him. He was also kicked in the head while lying defenseless on the ground. The attack was filmed and spread on social media.

The incident took place outside the Heinrich von Kleist secondary school in Frankfurt an der Oder. The event has sparked strong reactions after video clips of the assault began circulating on social media.

The videos show a group of about ten youths gathering around the student, who is alone. One of them appears to demand that the boy hand something over, whereupon he shows his empty pockets.

Soon after, the student is punched in the face. Several other youths join in, delivering blows and kicks. The violence continues even after the boy falls to the ground and is no longer able to defend himself. Kicks are also directed at his head.

The assaulted student sustained facial injuries and reported the attack to the police the same day.

Gang consisting of foreigners

After the incident, police have identified ten suspected perpetrators, all between 13 and 15 years old. According to police in the eastern regional directorate, who provided information to the local radio station Oderwelle, the suspects hold German, Polish, Russian, and Syrian citizenships.

Remix News reports that among the suspects are youths with Chechen backgrounds – likely those with Russian citizenship.

The gang is suspected of aggravated assault and robbery. Police have secured the videos of the attack and are working through a large number of tips received from the public.
