Tensions between the US and Iran have risen again after President Donald Trump issued new harsh threats against Tehran over the weekend. At the same time, the situation in the Strait of Hormuz continues to worry the rest of the world after several days of attacks, military operations, and disruptions in the important shipping lane for the world’s oil transport.
US President Donald Trump warned Iran over the weekend that time is running out. In statements to the media and on social media, Trump said that Iran must accept American demands regarding the country’s nuclear energy program and military activities, or otherwise face strong military attacks.
Trump spoke in very harsh terms and declared that “there will be nothing left” if Iran continues to defy the US demands.
The threats follow several weeks of escalating conflict between the US, Israel, and Iran. Negotiations over a ceasefire and new agreements have, according to multiple sources, stalled. Reuters describes how Trump’s aggressive negotiating style is now meeting stiff resistance from Tehran, which refuses to yield to American ultimatums.

Project Freedom
At the same time, the situation in the Strait of Hormuz has become increasingly unstable. The strategically important strait between Iran and Oman is crucial for :censored:6:cdd6bbaa89: oil trade, with around one fifth of the world’s oil passing through it. In recent weeks, Iran has threatened to restrict traffic, while American forces have tried to secure trade routes.
The US recently launched the military operation “Project Freedom”, in which American warships escorted civilian vessels through the strait after reports of attacks and mined shipping lanes. The operation quickly led to new clashes between American and Iranian forces, and several Iranian boats were reportedly destroyed. Iran in turn accused the US of violating the ceasefire and provoking renewed escalation.
In the past days, there have been reports of attacks on vessels, drone threats, and increased military movements in the area. US and allied forces have reinforced their presence in the Persian Gulf, while several shipping companies continue to avoid the Strait of Hormuz due to the security situation. There are also concerns that the conflict may further affect oil prices and the :censored:6:cdd6bbaa89: economy.

Digital Infrastructure
At the same time, Iran has signaled that the country may use more forms of leverage if the conflict continues. In addition to oil trade, Iranian representatives have hinted that even undersea cables and digital infrastructure in the area could be affected—something that has raised international concern.
Trump’s latest threats now risk further escalating the situation in the Middle East. With increasing military activity in the Strait of Hormuz and failed peace talks, experts warn that the region may be facing a new major conflict if no diplomatic solution is reached in the coming weeks.
