What was supposed to be a festive and memorable day for this year’s graduating students in Gislaved was dramatically interrupted when two families began to fight each other in the middle of the celebration. Around twenty people are reported to have been involved. Samnytt has interviewed a witness who caught the incident on film.

It was on Friday, June 12th that the police were alerted to Gislaved High School just before 4 p.m. after several reports of a fight at the scene. According to initial reports, it was a conflict involving both teenagers and adults.

When several police patrols arrived, they were met with a chaotic situation involving several individuals in various confrontations. The incident occurred just as the graduation floats were leaving the school grounds, and many relatives, friends, and other visitors were nearby.

Samnytt can show video footage from the scene depicting a large group fighting—including with objects like belts—and punches thrown right in the midst of the graduation festivities.

We have also interviewed a witness who was at the scene and can share more about the fight and her thoughts on the current state of Sweden.

– I think it’s absolutely crazy that people can’t even behave civilly on this type of day, she says, and continues:

– If things like this are already happening in small towns, one has to wonder what the situation is like nationally and where this will ultimately lead.

Two Families Identified as Involved

According to local media, several people sustained injuries during the large altercation and were seen bloodied after the incident. There were also witness reports that weapons were used, but police have not been able to confirm such details. However, in video material from the scene, accessed by Samnytt, individuals can be seen swinging belts at other participants in the turmoil.

In the days following the large fight, police continued working to map out what caused the conflict. Police investigation reports indicate it was a dispute between two families that, for some reason, escalated during the graduation celebrations.

Lone Police Officer

The incident has led to discussions on social media about the police presence at the scene. Many reacted to the fact that only a single police officer was seen intervening when the fight started.

The authorities filed a report of aggravated assault on the same day. However, no suspect or formally identified victim had been registered at the time.

Police are now continuing to gather witness statements and other material to clarify exactly what happened. Investigators have secured some information that may prove important for the ongoing work but have not provided further details.

When further police patrols arrived, most of those involved in the family dispute had already left the scene. Police are taking the incident seriously and regret that a day meant for joy and celebration was overshadowed by violence.

Police have expressed that more adults at the scene should have helped calm the situation before it escalated. At the same time, footage accessed by Samnytt appears to show that several adults were directly involved in the fight, rather than trying to stop it.

“Should Be Resolved”

Johan Borg, operational coordinator at the Värnamo police, expresses hope that the conflict between the two families has now ended following the incident at the graduation celebration.

– One would have wished for some responsible adults at the scene, who could have shown better judgment and calmed things down. We have been informed that the matter should now be resolved, so hopefully there will be no further continuation of the dispute between the families, Johan Borg told Värnamo Nyheter.
