In Novus’ December poll, support for the Sweden Democrats grows by almost three percentage points. Although the Moderate Party loses support, it is mainly the Social Democrats from whom SD is winning voters.

With 23.7 percent, the Sweden Democrats consolidate their position as the second largest party, while the Moderates drop to 17.6 percent.

– The biggest change is that the Sweden Democrats are increasing sharply. We have a statistically significant increase for them. We also see that the Moderates are going down a bit. But their voters are not going to SD; instead, they are abstaining, says Torbjörn Sjöström, CEO at Novus.

Henrik Vinge (SD), chairman of the Committee on Justice, believes the party’s success can be explained by its criminal policy.

– I think it is because the Social Democrats are weak when it comes to criminal policy. They are not prepared to actually crush the gangs in the way we are. That is why voters to a large extent want a continued Tidö majority. People want this end to gang crime, and only the Sweden Democrats can deliver that, he says to TV4 Nyheterna.

Apart from the ups and downs for SD and the Moderates, changes elsewhere are minor. This time, the Christian Democrats do not clear the threshold and land just below it, while the Liberals remain even closer to the bottom. The opposition gets 50.3 percent compared to the Tidö parties’ 47.6 percent.
