During the opening ceremony of the Brussels Christmas market last Friday, a group of Palestinian activists took the opportunity to ruin the atmosphere. The behavior has enraged Geert Wilders.
The demonstrators targeted the government and Brussels Mayor Philippe Close. They complained about several asylum seekers from Gaza who had previously participated in the protests being arrested and placed in return centers.
“The Christmas market in Brussels is turning into an Islamic hell,” commented Geert Wilders on social media with a video of the pro-Palestinian mob protesting with torches and drums among the cabins and stalls under the Christmas decorations.

“Elsewhere in Europe, Christmas markets are under extra surveillance. This is the result of decades of open borders. We must stop the Islamization of the West. Freedom instead of terror. Islam does not belong here,” he continues.

The post has garnered over 400,000 views and received significant attention in national conservative circles.

Wrong Place and Time
Another person who has also reacted is Matthias Vanden Borre, member of parliament for the liberal conservative Nieuw-Vlaamse Alliantie. He believes that a Christmas market should be a warm, safe, and cultural tradition, not a stage for international conflicts or political controversies. Although he acknowledges the right to protest, he insists that the Christmas market is not the right place for it.
“The mayor must assess whether such a demonstration can take place without compromising public order and safety. I demand a ban on all demonstrations in the city center throughout the entire Christmas market period. Allowing protests in the midst of a large-scale event is extremely dangerous. Is Mayor Philippe Close ready to take responsibility if things go wrong? Just look at what happened at several Christmas markets in Germany. Do we really want to take that risk here in Brussels,” he says.
