A man of Lebanese background has been convicted after breaking into the home of a Swedish couple as well as the home of an elderly mother and her son during a “drug-induced psychosis.” He caused chaos in both residences, and in the latter incident, threatened the son by holding a knife to his throat. The man’s parents immigrated to Sweden in the 1990s, and he himself was born here and therefore cannot be deported. Samnytt can reveal more details about the terrifying incidents in the homes.

It was on April 23 this year that Shadi Gohzlan, 29 years old with Lebanese background, was outside a residence in Hässleholm municipality, screaming that he had been shot, banging on the door, and smashing the door’s window panes.

He then broke in by forcing open the basement door, and from there made his way into the kitchen. When the couple came out, he said that he had been shot and refused to leave the home despite their requests.

He was described by the man as a “dark-skinned type,” and the woman found the event disturbing.

– One moment he was calm, the next he was screaming. I found the whole situation very unpleasant, the woman said in her interview with the police.

But he was never shot—instead, he claims he was experiencing a psychosis and believed he was being chased. He only realized it wasn’t real when the police arrived at the home and confirmed he had not been shot.

Climbs Down to Balcony – Naked

An elderly mother and her son in Hässleholm woke up on June 7 this year to noise and thumps from the third floor, where Gohzlan lives. The mother then heard noises on the balcony and went to investigate. There she saw Gohzlan hanging from the balcony railing—naked.

He then fell onto their balcony and said he was going to be killed. He smashed a window in their living room and was then let into the apartment. They tried to call the police.

Gohzlan then went into the kitchen where he grabbed a knife. He struck at a windowpane but failed to break it. Suddenly, he grabbed the son’s chest and held the knife to his throat.

“Will beat the crap out of him”

The son, who is in his sixties, is tired of his criminal neighbor after what happened.

– I don’t know what will happen next time. I’ll beat the crap out of him if he comes here again, he said in his police interview.

Two people had also called emergency services after seeing a naked man smash windowpanes, stand on a balcony and jump to the one below. In this case too, Gohzlan was deemed to have likely suffered from a drug-induced psychosis.

When police arrived, Gohzlan had jumped down to the ground and resisted the officers as they intervened. In footage from police body cameras, he can be seen resisting, twisting, waving, and kicking at the police.

He was charged with violence against an official, as the prosecutor considered that he had attacked two police officers who suffered injuries. However, the court found that it was not proven he had the intent to use violence and instead convicted him of violent resistance.

Court: “Showed Signs of Psychosis”

The district court concludes that Gohzlan showed symptoms of psychosis in connection with both incidents for which he is now convicted. However, the court holds that these were drug-induced. The conclusion is therefore that the condition is considered self-inflicted and provides no grounds for a reduced sentence.

It was also established that Gohzlan appears in 27 separate entries in the criminal record. He was most recently convicted in December 2025, in Norway, for robbery and sentenced to a year and two months in prison.

Following this year’s events, he is convicted of two counts of aggravated unlawful entry, aggravated unlawful threat, criminal damage, and two counts of violent resistance. As there were no grounds to deviate from the standard punishment level, the sentence was set at one year and eight months in prison.

He is also ordered to pay damages to the couple victimized in April, totaling 40,000 SEK. To the mother and son, he must pay a total of 61,000 SEK. The verdict was delivered in Hässleholm District Court on August 5, 2026.
