An inmate at Salberga Prison has been charged with aggravated assault after attacking the Afghan man serving a life sentence for the high-profile attempted murder in a mine shaft between Avesta and Norberg, where he first raped a woman and then threw her into the shaft. At the same time, it has been noted that police are investigating another suspected murder linked to the same area. As early as 2022, Samnytt revealed that such suspicions existed and that the so-called Mine Shaft Afghan, during the attack, shouted to his victim that he had done the same to his ex-wife.
According to the indictment, submitted to the court in mid-July, the assault took place in May 2023. At the time, the two men were living in the same corridor at Salberga Prison.
According to Afghan Mohamad Taher Amini, 44, the now-charged perpetrator had been banging loudly on the wall the night before the assault. When he asked what was going on, the answer was reportedly:
– I want to speak to you, Amini. Tomorrow, we need to have a talk, Amini, the Afghan recounted to the police.
When the two met the next day, while the Afghan sentenced to life was washing dishes in the ward’s kitchen, no conversation took place.
– I expected him to talk to me as he had said, not to be met in that way, said the offended Afghan in a police interview.
Surveillance footage shows another inmate approaching and striking the Afghan convicted of rape and attempted murder in the face, causing him to collapse to the floor.
Complaint in Police Interview: Had 14 Teeth Knocked Out
He was then further subjected to blows to the head and multiple kicks to the body. According to the indictment, the assault led to lacerations, swelling, knocked-out teeth, bleeding, as well as pain and tenderness.
– Eight teeth in my upper jaw and six in my lower jaw. It still hurts and is painful when I speak, the Afghan complained in the police interview.

The accused man denies the crime. In a police interview, he stated that he had not fought with anyone at Salberga Prison and did not wish to comment when shown the surveillance footage.
– No comments, was the reply.
Raped and Threw Woman into Mine Shaft
Mohamad Taher Amini, who was assaulted, was sentenced in October 2022 to life imprisonment and deportation to Afghanistan for aggravated rape and attempted murder after the widely reported case in a mine shaft located between Norberg and Avesta.
The police investigation and court verdict established that the Afghan had raped a young woman after she refused his marriage proposal. He then pushed her into a 24-meter-deep mine shaft in the abandoned village of Långgruvan.

The woman survived against all odds for over 31 hours at the bottom of the mine shaft before being rescued and later identified the man as the perpetrator.
Samnytt has previously reported that Amini stated he had been studying at ABF while in Sweden. It was also reported that his asylum application had already been rejected in October 2017, a decision upheld by the migration court the following year.
But despite the deportation order, he remained in Sweden and was able to commit the crimes.
New Find in the Mine Shaft – New Murder Investigation
In mid-July this year, it was noted that the police are conducting a murder investigation linked to the mine shaft area where the Afghan threw a woman after raping her.
As early as 2022, Samnytt revealed that police were also investigating what had happened to the Afghan’s previous wife, who disappeared without trace in January 2020. Despite the investigation, police have never been able to clarify what happened to her.
When the latest victim was raped and thrown into the mine shaft, the Afghan reportedly stood at the edge, threw down stones, and said that he had done the same to his ex-wife.
Then-41-year-old Afghan left the woman in the mine shaft but returned after a few hours. He then suddenly claimed he wanted to help her up and lowered a rope.
The woman in the mine shaft, however, did not trust the Afghan and chose not to try climbing up with his help. Amini instead fetched large stones, which he threw down into the shaft in an attempt to hit her on the head.
Convinced that the woman who had rejected his marriage proposal would die down in the mine shaft, Amini also revealed information about his previous wife’s fate while standing at the mine shaft’s edge and throwing stones.
– I killed my wife too and threw her in the water. No one has found her, he shouted according to the victim, and continued:
– She was like you! A traitor!

It is still unclear whether there is any connection between the ex-wife’s disappearance and the new finds in the mine shaft area now being investigated by police. What is clear is that the Afghan’s previous wife was reported missing in January 2020 and that it is still unclear what happened to her.
As part of the ongoing investigation, police have made several discoveries in the mine shaft in Norberg. Among other things, two cars have been recovered from the shaft. Police do not wish to comment on other discoveries, except that a preliminary murder investigation has begun.
