The sale of the 42 apartments in the new condominium association by Drevviken in Farsta is lagging, but now the City of Stockholm is stepping in to purchase 14 of them.

It was a year ago that the apartments were put up for sale, but interest has been lukewarm. Now, however, the City of Stockholm intends to purchase 14 apartments from the construction company Åke Sundvall AB in their condominium association Bruket in Klockelund.

Neighbors who bought their homes at a high price will then be surprised, as the city plans to rent out the apartments as service apartments to people with mental disabilities.

The decision is expected to be made by the Property Board next week and covers thirteen two-room apartments of 54 square meters and one larger apartment of 97 square meters intended to serve as a communal space with staff areas. It is a hybrid form, between independent living and group housing.

45 million

While the City of Stockholm is buying up new condominiums, it has become increasingly difficult especially for young people to move out and find housing without taking on lifelong debt.

“It is highly unusual. But it is possible that, as it becomes more difficult to sell, housing companies will turn more to the city. We have the need,” says Felix Wickman, unit manager at the social services administration, to Mitt i.

The City of Stockholm’s budget includes a directive to increase the number of group and service apartments. The 14 apartments will cost Stockholm taxpayers 45 million kronor.
