Iran’s supreme leader Mojtaba Khamenei has issued sharp criticism of the United States and President Donald Trump. According to Khamenei, the repeated American violations of an agreement between the two countries have demonstrated that Trump’s signature lacks any credibility.
At the same time as Iran’s highest authority directs harsh criticism at the US, military escalation in the region continues. The previous ceasefire between the US and Iran has broken down, and in recent days both sides have carried out new attacks.
The US has continued its airstrikes against Iranian military targets, while Iran has responded with missile and drone attacks on American interests and allies in the region, including in Kuwait, Bahrain, and Jordan.
The situation around the strategically important Strait of Hormuz thus remains tense, as the fighting has affected international shipping and sparked fears of a broader regional conflict.
Trump’s Words “Worthless”
In a written statement on Saturday, Khamenei said that a memorandum of understanding signed by the presidents of Iran and the United States has been undermined by Washington’s actions. He therefore claims that Trump’s signature is “completely worthless and without credibility,” Reuters reports.
The statement comes after a ceasefire between the US and Iran collapsed last week. Since then, both countries have carried out attacks on each other, increasing concerns that the conflict may once again develop into a full-scale war.
Khamenei simultaneously issued a warning to the US and said that Washington must understand that the Iranian people and the so-called resistance front have drawn “unforgettable lessons” from the recent developments.

The Iranian leader believes that the events show Iran cannot rely on American promises and that the US will have to bear the consequences of its actions.
The relationship between Washington and Tehran has long been characterized by deep antagonism, and the recent military confrontations have further aggravated the situation between the two countries.
