The Liberals’ poll numbers are at rock bottom. In a new poll from Sentio commissioned by Riks, the party receives 1.7 percent – lower than the ABV of a light beer. The solution? The Liberals in Uppsala are hoping for more buzz in the election cabin and will start serving strong beer.
During this year’s election campaign, visitors to the Liberals’ booth on Stora torget will be able to discuss politics while being offered the chance to buy a beer.
The party has received a liquor license for operations during August, making the booth one of the first to test the new possibilities after the recent changes to alcohol legislation.
Thanks to the new alcohol law, which has abolished the requirement to serve food along with alcohol, the party is one of the first to try out this new option.

Eva Edwardsson (L) is the Liberals’ municipal commissioner in Uppsala, and she thinks it’s a bit of fun.
– Well, I think people have free choice. Just because we now have the ability to serve alcohol doesn’t in any way mean we urge anyone to drink, it’s simply an opportunity for those who would already find it nice to have a beer, and it’s a bit fun to do so in an election booth, Edwardsson tells Swedish Radio.
The Liberals in Uppsala state that the initiative is about creating a more relaxed meeting place during the election campaign, where people can drop by and talk politics.
The Poll
In the July poll from Sentio on behalf of Riks, the bloc difference amounts to 11.4 percentage points. At the same time, as many as 15.2 percent of voters are still undecided ahead of the election.
The Social Democrats are the big winners in the poll, increasing by 3.3 percentage points, while the Liberals continue to lose support, sinking further below the parliamentary threshold.
