In early May, Samnytt was able to reveal that an Eritrean with gang affiliations was employed by a care company in Solna shortly after serving a prison sentence – and was then charged with raping a pensioner during a home visit. The recently published police investigation additionally shows how the man, who was denied a residence permit as long as 17 years ago, defended himself during questioning by admitting he habitually masturbates in the homes of elderly clients.
A 30-year-old Eritrean, previously convicted of, among other things, serious drug offenses for possessing 128 grams of cocaine and 330 grams of cannabis, stands charged with aggravated rape. The police stated in the preliminary investigation that he was linked to organized gang crime.
He was hired by the care company Adela Omsorg shortly after serving his prison time, which allowed him to come into contact with the woman he is now accused of assaulting. Samnytt can now confirm that his name is Robel Efrem Ghidey, 30 years old and a citizen of Eritrea.

On November 2, 2025, Robel went during his time off to the pensioner’s home, posing as if he was on duty. Once inside the apartment, he allegedly inserted his fingers into her private parts and exposed himself to her. According to police interviews, the woman sat on the bed and cried after the rape.

In police interviews, the interrogator explained to Robel that his semen was found on the pensioner’s bed sheets. Asked how this could have happened, the man replied, “he didn’t do anything with NN, that’s what matters.”
The Eritrean defends himself by saying he often has phone sex with “his girlfriend whom he respects,” and that the semen could end up in clients’ homes that way.

In a later interview, Robel admitted to masturbating in the pensioner’s home, claiming it happened during a previous visit on October 17, 2025, while on duty. To the police he said, “I masturbated that day. You’re not supposed to do that at a client’s home. I was ashamed.”

Employment at Care Company Adela Omsorg
Despite previous convictions for, among other things, serious drug offenses and aggravated drunk driving, Robel was given employment at the care company Adela Omsorg shortly after his release from prison.
In a police interview, Robel elaborates on his employment, explaining that he “had great trust from the job so he got the job immediately despite his record.”

When Samnytt confronted Sanna Torslund, business area manager at Adela Omsorg, she claimed not to know about Robel’s criminal past and stated they never would have hired him if they had known. Despite this, he was hired and, due to his work, was able to come into contact with the victim.
When Samnytt asked Sanna Torslund why information about Robel’s 2022 conviction (2 years and 2 months in prison) was not found in a background check, she declined to comment further.

– Now we were going to discuss his employment with us, so if you have more questions and want to continue talking, then I think we should set aside more time for that.
Samnytt has contacted the Migration Agency, which states that as early as 2009 — 17 years ago — Robel was denied a residence permit, but has managed to stay in Sweden through repeated applications. In 2023, however, he was denied Swedish citizenship.
Samnytt Contacts Responsible Politician
We have repeatedly tried to reach Martin Karlsson (Centre Party), chairman of the Care Committee in Solna municipality, for comment. We want to know, among other things, how he as the person responsible for elderly care ensures that their providers carry out proper background checks and do not employ gang criminals to care for pensioners.
We are also interested in knowing how he views his own responsibility in the event and whether the committee has handled its mission correctly. Finally, we want to know if this will have consequences for the care company and whether they have had any contact regarding the incident.
Robel Efrem Ghidey is charged with aggravated rape at Solna District Court, where the main hearing is expected to take place on May 28 and 29. It remains to be seen how the court will rule. The man, who is from Eritrea, reportedly admits to masturbating in the homes of pensioners but denies the rape allegations.
