Former Sweden Democrats (SD) Member of Parliament Katja Nyberg is now being prosecuted for multiple offenses following an incident last December. The charges include aggravated driving without a license, drunk driving, minor drug offenses through personal use, as well as possession of narcotics.

The suspicions arose during the days between Christmas and New Year’s when police stopped Nyberg and conducted a rapid drug test, which came back positive for narcotics. During the intervention, a bag of white powder was also confiscated.

Following the incident, the Swedish Transport Agency revoked her driver’s license. The authority cited laboratory results showing she had drugs in her blood.

Now the prosecutor has decided to bring charges in Nacka District Court.

– We have conducted several interviews with the woman and had the National Forensic Centre (NFC) analyze tests which, among other things, show she had drugs in her system while driving in December. It is now up to the court to assess the charges based on the evidence I present, says Chief Prosecutor Anders Jakobsson.

The former SD politician Katja Nyberg denies most of the accusations.

On leave from the police

In addition to the outcome of the legal process, the case could also have labor law consequences. Katja Nyberg is a police officer on leave of absence, and complaints against police employees are also handled internally within the Police Authority.

According to the Special Investigations Division, disciplinary actions may be relevant even if the person is not convicted in court.
