The well-known left-wing researcher and founder of the far-left Expo Foundation has been convicted of unlawful threats and harassment after sending hundreds of aggressive and offensive messages to his former partner and people close to her.

In mid-April, Samnytt reported that Tobias Hübinette, associate professor, left-wing figure and one of Expo’s founders, had been charged with unlawful threats and harassment against two people close to him. Hübinette has for several years regularly appeared as an expert in mainstream media.

The background of the charges is a long series of messages sent by Hübinette in August 2022 in a group chat he shared with his partner and the father of his partner’s child.

The Expo founder also promised revenge. He wrote that he would “hurt all of you as much as I possibly can until I die” and that he would “die with pride” after having destroyed the lives of his partner and the father of her child.

“My hatred for you has no limits and I already have so many convictions that I don’t care anymore” and “Now all of you will suffer and be destroyed, you bastards,” are other threatening messages the well-known researcher wrote to them, as evidenced by the legal documents in the case.

39,000 kronor

On Monday, the Stockholm District Court announced that the messages contained several threatening statements, including that the man wrote he would ruin the recipients’ lives and could give false information to authorities to harm them.

The messages were directed at two people. The District Court found that the actions constituted harassment against both, while one of the individuals was also subjected to unlawful threats.

The Stockholm District Court has sentenced Hübinette to 150 daily fines of 260 kronor each, amounting to a total fine of 39,000 kronor. He is also ordered to pay 10,000 kronor in damages to the plaintiff.

Hübinette has informed the local newspaper NWT that he will not appeal the verdict.
