A man is being treated for life-threatening injuries after being attacked with a hammer in broad daylight in the Spanish city of Almería. According to Spanish media and police, the suspected perpetrator repeatedly struck the victim in the head before passersby intervened.

The assault is said to have occurred on Thursday on a street in Almería. Several people witnessed the event and alerted emergency services and police. The victim, a Senegalese migrant, suffered severe head injuries and was transported to hospital where he underwent emergency surgery. According to reports, the man was at risk of dying as a result of his injuries.

The suspected attacker, a man of Arab background, allegedly assaulted the victim with a hammer, delivering several powerful blows to the head. Witnesses attempted to stop the violence before the police arrived at the scene.

The suspect was apprehended shortly thereafter and is now the subject of a criminal investigation. Police have not yet disclosed any motive and are investigating whether the two men knew each other previously.

The investigation is still ongoing, and police are working to reconstruct the sequence of events through witness interviews and technical evidence gathering.
