During the night to Sunday, the Tierp parish in the Diocese of Uppsala was targeted in an attack where, among other things, a car was set on fire and windows were smashed. This is not the first time the parish has been subjected to vandalism.
When the emergency services arrived, the car was already engulfed in flames, and police suspect the fire was started deliberately. Windows at the parish hall were also smashed. The vandalism has been reported to the police.
– We actually don’t know much more. This kind of vandalism has happened before around the church, so this is likely part of a pattern, says vicar Jonas Lindberg to Kyrkans Tidning.

According to Jonas Lindberg, there is no indication that any message has been directed at the church and, even though there have been no specific threats against the parish, several employees are shaken.
After inspecting the damage, he sent out an email on Sunday, but he believes those who had not yet read it were more affected when they showed up on Monday.

Camera Surveillance
No decisions have yet been made about possible measures, but since this recurs regularly, camera surveillance may be something that will be installed.
In Tierp there have long been problems with vandalism, and cars have also been burned in the town center.
