WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has filed a complaint against the Nobel Committee for, among other things, complicity in war crimes. The reason is the committee’s decision to award the Nobel Peace Prize to Venezuelan opposition figure María Corina Machado.

Assange has submitted a report to both the Swedish Police Authority’s war crimes unit and the Swedish Economic Crime Authority, WikiLeaks writes on its X account.

The WikiLeaks founder points out that Machado has expressed strong support for U.S. President Donald Trump. Among other things, she has dedicated the prize to him and has also praised his military escalation against her homeland.

Leads to More War

Therefore, Assange believes, the Nobel Peace Prize becomes a tool that leads to more, rather than less, war. “Machado has continued to incite the Trump administration to pursue its escalating course,” he claims.

He also highlights statements from, among others, Trump’s defense secretary Peter Hegseth, about the U.S. Department of Defense aiming for “maximum lethality, not lukewarm legality”. According to him, this shows a lack of respect for international law.

Julian Assange therefore believes that Donald Trump is on the verge of committing war crimes and crimes against humanity in Venezuela, that María Corina Machado supports those violations of international law, and that by rewarding her, the Nobel Committee becomes complicit in those crimes.

It should be pointed out that it is the Norwegian Nobel Committee, not the Swedish one, that selects the winner of the Nobel Peace Prize.
