A video clip has spread widely on social media after the left-liberal newspaper Dagens Nyheter went to Örebro to interview the Örebro Party’s leader Markus Allard ahead of the upcoming election.

The full interview has been published on the Örebro Party’s YouTube channel and is available to watch in its entirety, without DN’s editorial selection.

During the interview, there are several moments where it becomes clear that the journalists and Allard have very different starting points on the issues being discussed.

One of the topics that comes up is the perception of Swedishness. DN points out, among other things, that the Örebro Party may differ from the Sweden Democrats on this point, as the Sweden Democrats often talk about an “open Swedishness,” while the Örebro Party seems to have a different view of what Swedishness means.

When asked if he agrees with this description, Markus Allard answers, “both yes and no.” He then elaborates by distinguishing between ethnic and cultural Swedishness.

According to Allard, there is such a thing as ethnic Swedishness, while a person can also become Swedish by adopting Swedish culture.

When DN’s journalists then ask if it is possible to become ethnically Swedish, the answer is short and concise.

– Yes, if you are born into it. How else would that work, according to you?

DN journalist: Who is born then… What are the requirements for someone to be considered ethnically Swedish?

Allard: That you have two Swedish parents, or what?

DN journalist: That they are, well, simply Swedish citizens then?

Allard: Are you pretending to be stupid, or are you stupid? I mean, you do understand what I mean, right?
