A pensioner in Katrineholm has died after a serious accident during a walk with staff from a care home. The event was initially described as the wheelchair starting to move uncontrollably and ending up in a ditch. However, in reality, the staff had not locked the wheelchair in place.
The accident occurred while staff were out walking with several residents. According to information from Sveriges Radio, a situation arose where one of the people fell and needed assistance.
While the staff attended to the pensioner who had fallen, another person was left sitting in a wheelchair that had not been locked.
The wheelchair then began moving and rolled down a slope before ending up in a ditch. The person was thrown from the chair and sustained serious injuries.
The injuries later proved to be so severe that the person died. After the fatal accident, Katrineholm Municipality has filed a report concerning the wheelchair to the Medical Products Agency.
