Ukrainian military sources claim that the depot is the largest Ukraine has managed to take out during the war – with 30,000 tons of ammunition. The depot is alleged to have stored Russian Iskander and Tochka missiles and KAB bombs.

The explosions were so powerful that they were registered as a series of earthquakes by seismological stations.

New drone

Russian air defense along the border was activated to shoot down the incoming drones, and Russian authorities blame the explosions on a fire caused by “falling shrapnel”.

An explanation that not even Russian so-called military bloggers buy. The struck ammunition depot began construction in 2018, and was promised to have a high level of security where missiles and ammunition would be stored in blast-proof spaces that could not be triggered by external influences.

Ukrainian media speculate that the Russian ammunition depot was hit by a so-called Palyanitsa. A newly developed Ukrainian jet-powered drone that was first unveiled as late as August 24 this year.
