This week, several cases have been reported where healthcare missed cancer tumors, which in one case led to the death of the patient.

A woman who suffered from swallowing difficulties and chest pains sought repeated care at a health center in Västmanland. Despite the visits, she did not improve.

During another emergency visit, a cancer tumor in the chest was finally discovered, but by then it was too late and the woman passed away shortly thereafter.

The case has been reported to the Health and Care Inspectorate, Ivo.

18-month wait

In another case, a patient with an elevated risk of cancer had to wait 1.5 years to be examined at the Uppsala University Hospital. The long wait led to a cancer tumor in the intestine being missed.

The hospital admits that the long wait has been ”unacceptable” and claims to have taken several measures to prevent the same mistake from happening again.

Sloppy Locum Doctor

In another healthcare-related case, a locum doctor in Sala is criticized for disregarding hygiene rules and neglecting to document visits. He is also said to have missed or misjudged two cases where cancer or tumors are strongly suspected.

Despite extensive experience as a primary care physician, he unexpectedly needed a lot of help with various procedures and is now reported to Ivo.
