An evangelical Christian teacher involved in a dispute over how to address a transgender person has been sent back to prison after once again violating a court order prohibiting him from entering school grounds.

Enoch Burke was dismissed in 2023 after refusing to address a student with their new pronouns. Since then, he has been involved in a protracted legal battle with Wilson’s Hospital School in County Westmeath, Ireland.

While Burke claims that his religious rights are being denied, the school asserts that he has repeatedly been imprisoned for defying court orders and continued trespassing on private property.

In a video posted on Burke’s X (Twitter) account on Monday, he is seen at the gates of the school where he is arrested and driven away in a police car. According to the post, Burke was arrested after “refusing to affirm transgender ideology” that is “being imposed on children.”

He has been fined more than 225,000 euros and claims he has now spent over 550 days in prison.

Court Contempt

Burke was released from Mountjoy Prison in Dublin on Wednesday to prepare for an appeal against his dismissal. The release was conditional upon him not returning, but Burke showed up there on Thursday, Friday, and Monday. He was stopped from entering the school by a security guard at the gates.

In a speech to the High Court in Dublin on Monday, Burke said he has the utmost respect for the court and, when asked to explain the alleged trespassing, said he was showing up at his workplace.

The judge found him guilty of contempt of court and issued an order for his immediate detention in Mountjoy Prison.
