Once again, Swedish mainstream media have reported about a so-called Swede involved in legal proceedings abroad suspected of violent crime. This time, it involves a “Swede” who struck a British tourist in Thailand, causing the victim to fall to the ground and die later that same day. Samnytt can reveal that the perpetrator is a well-known gang criminal with an immigrant background from Turkey, and he was recently released from prison after a torture assault in Stockholm.

It was on Wednesday at 5:00 PM local time that a 57-year-old British tourist from Liverpool, who also held Australian citizenship, got into an altercation with 29-year-old Tugay Tayyar Pektas in Patong on Phuket’s west coast.
Pektas had recently served a six-year prison sentence in Sweden after a particularly aggravated assault in Flemingsberg, southern Stockholm. The victim was found unconscious with life-threatening injuries — lying in a pool of blood, hands tied behind his back, and with a rope noose around his neck and hands.

Tugay Tayyar Pektas has been singled out by Swedish police as a leading figure in the Flemingsberg network south of Stockholm and got into a dispute with the British tourist after both started arguing in traffic on Prachanukhro Road while riding mopeds.
According to media reports, one had cut in front of the other, which led them to start honking at each other, chase each other, and eventually stop in an alley where the conflict escalated physically.

A surveillance video in the alley near the Malin Plaza market captured the altercation and shows the British man backing away while Pektas pushes through and past a woman who tries to stop the fight. He then delivers a blow to the man’s head, causing the victim to fall backward to the ground.
After the attack, Tugay Tayyar Pektas fled the scene, while the British tourist was taken to Patong hospital with severe head injuries. Later that evening, the tourist was to be transferred to another hospital on the island, but died during the transfer.
At 4:00 AM the following day, Tugay Tayyar Pektas was arrested and, according to media, is suspected of manslaughter. The convicted gang member is said to have admitted to Thai police that he struck the British tourist and has been denied bail.
