On Tuesday, a 35-year-old Tunisian man carried out a knife attack at a hotel in the coastal city of Marseille in southern France. The police responded by shooting the man dead in front of passersby and guests at outdoor cafes.
According to media reports, the man was armed with two large butcher knives and a metal rod as he ran around stabbing people.
Nicolas Bessonne, the prosecutor in Marseille, told the media that the man is a Tunisian citizen and attacked several people after being evicted from a hotel in the Belsunce area for not paying rent.
The man entered his old hotel room and stabbed the person now living there. He then attacked the hotel manager, the manager’s son, and another guest who were involved in the commotion that ensued.
