In a couple of weeks, local elections will be held in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia. Ahead of the election, four representatives of the national conservative Alternative for Germany have died, something that is considered statistically almost impossible.
Despite being opposed with all possible means and subjected to the usual serious accusations, AfD made strong gains in the German parliamentary election in February and became the second largest party with just under 21 percent of the votes. The Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and its sister party, the Christian Social Union (CSU), became the largest party with 28.5 percent.
