U.S. Vice President JD Vance is visiting Hungary to show his support for Prime Minister Viktor Orbán ahead of Sunday’s parliamentary elections. Orbán, known for his national-conservative policies, received praise from Trump’s right-hand man during the visit.

The American Vice President JD Vance is visiting Orbán for two days ahead of this weekend’s election in Hungary, where Fidesz is expected to face strong opposition from its rivals.

Vance, who has established himself as a strong EU critic, did not mince words when he praised the Hungarian Prime Minister as a leader who “stands up for energy security.” Furthermore, the Trump administration views Hungary as “the defense of Western civilization” in Europe.

At Tuesday’s press conference in Budapest, standing side by side with Orbán, Vance gave clear political support and stated that the Hungarian government’s policies should serve as a model for the entire European continent. He criticized the EU leadership in Brussels, which he described as a group of bureaucrats.

“They talk about an energy crisis, but they should do as Orbán does. Prices are rising here too, but less than anywhere else,” said Vance.
