In a social media post in March, SD leader Mattias Karlsson noted that his one-year-old daughter is not welcome on Mondays at the nearest open preschool in Stockholm to his apartment because her parents are heterosexual. This prompted Equality Minister Nina Larsson (L) to respond.
The same type of exclusion also applies on Thursdays at another open independent school near Karlsson’s parliamentary apartment, and on Wednesdays, his daughter is also not welcome at the open preschool in their home municipality in Småland because her mother is a native Swede.

Lucky that the left has taught the whole society about power hierarchies, oppressive structures, and ‘equal value for all,’ so that we’ve resolved the discrimination against certain groups that prevailed in the past and that, strangely enough, everyone just accepted and seemed to think was normal…

Wants to keep separatism
Equality Minister Nina Larsson belongs to the faction within the Liberals that has not opposed the agreement with the Sweden Democrats, something she says is necessary but will not be easy.
– This is the step we have to take to save the party and Sweden, she told Dagens Nyheter.
In the same interview, she comments on the case of Mattias Karlsson and the schools, as well as his proposal to abolish the so-called rainbow gatherings.

– I think it’s wrong. I think there should be an opportunity to make targeted efforts for certain groups. If you feel discriminated against, you should file a complaint.
If Mattias Karlsson’s wife felt discriminated against, she should report it, Larsson argues. At the same time, she admits, “there are more gender equality issues where we don’t agree with Karlsson and the Sweden Democrats.”
Conservatives are the biggest threat
The minister further argues that in a liberal democracy like Sweden, it is necessary to recognize that special measures might be needed to stand up for minorities and vulnerable groups, without it being about making distinctions based on gender or sexual orientation.
According to Nina Larsson, conservatives are the biggest threat to both liberal values and gender equality in Sweden and internationally. Just a few years ago, she referred to the Sweden Democrats as “the Russia Democrats.” Despite this, she says she’s not afraid that a government with the Sweden Democrats will implement Sweden Democrat policies on gender equality.
She explains that there are different views on gender equality and that this leads to different views on measures in many areas, but also says that just because it’s difficult does not mean one can give up, as that’s a luxury one does not have.
