The celebration of Paris Saint-Germain’s victory in the Champions League final, where Europe’s best club team is crowned for the season, devolved into violent riots in several parts of Paris and continued throughout the night.
The final was dramatically decided by penalties on Sunday between Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and the London club Arsenal in Hungary’s capital, Budapest.
The unrest that followed the match, however, did not take place in Hungary, but in the French capital, Paris. There, the celebrations among parts of the Parisian population turned into violent riots directed at the police, with cars and properties vandalized and stores looted.

Even before the final, French police had mobilized a total of 22,000 officers across the country, 8,000 of whom were ready in the capital. This was a preventive measure as police expected riots.
