Following an initiative from Gothenburg’s Social Democratic and Left Party leadership, 150 apartments in the city’s so-called underprivileged areas will be earmarked for students. The goal is to create greater diversity among residents.

The apartments belong to the municipal property group AB Framtiden and are located in Gothenburg’s vulnerable and particularly exposed areas. These apartments are now being offered to students. After two years, those who wish can take over the apartment with a first-hand rental contract.

According to the chairman of the municipal council, Jonas Attenius (S), who has been a driving force behind the Social Democrats’ plans for compulsory mixing, students will be given priority in the housing queue. He sees it as advantageous to bring in a group that is well-educated into these areas.

SD Criticism

The Sweden Democrats are critical, and according to Jörgen Fogelklou (SD), all studies show that young students want to live centrally, close to their campus.

“You cannot have a system where people are allowed to skip the queue. It will be perceived as unfair,” he says to national television.

Gang Rape in Similar Housing Situation

Samnytt recently reported a similar case in the Netherlands, where students were forced to live with migrants to facilitate their integration. The result was years of sexual abuse and violence.

Stek Oost, located in the Watergraafsmeer district in Amsterdam, was promoted to the public as the dream solution to the housing and migration crisis. 125 students and 125 migrants were to live side by side and were even encouraged to “work together” so that the migrants would adapt more quickly to life in the Netherlands.

In the media, however, the students describe a situation far from ideal, with repeated sexual assaults, harassment, violence, stalking, and even a gang rape.
