At a school in Uddevalla Municipality, someone brought in lamb meat and butchered it directly on the benches in the woodwork classroom, where students normally work. The incident was caught on camera, and the school administration has sent a message to parents about unauthorized meat handling. Several parents now want to know how hygiene and safety have been ensured.

It was on Tuesday that guardians received the internal notice from the school management. In the message, the school writes that it has become aware of the meat handling, that it views the incident seriously, and that measures have been taken.

The principal states in an email to SVT that the issue involved lamb meat handled for private use, and that none of the school’s own tools were used.

“My first feeling was surprise. This should not happen on school premises,” writes the principal.

The Room Has Been Sanitized

The surface where the meat was handled has, according to the school, been sanitized in collaboration with the cleaning staff. The school has also been in contact with the municipality’s environmental office.

Among parents there is some relief that the room has now been cleaned, but also questions about how the situation could arise at all. One parent welcomes the school’s actions but also wants the administration to investigate how this could have occurred in the first place.
