A leading Sweden Democrats (SD) politician in Skaraborg has been remanded in custody on probable cause, suspected of rape. This is revealed in court documents obtained by Samnytt.

It was on Wednesday evening last week that police in Mariestad received a report of a rape.

– The alleged victim called the police, prosecutor Ylva Lundgren told Samnytt.

SD Senior Official Detained

The prosecutor further explains that the caller is “an adult woman,” but does not wish to disclose more about the complainant. The woman who filed the report identified a local top politician as the perpetrator: a leading representative of the Sweden Democrats.

The politician, who is in his 70s, was arrested at 11:32 PM the same night and was formally detained two and a half hours later by on-call prosecutor Erica Lindberg.

On Friday, Skaraborg District Court, with Judge Björn Danielsson presiding, decided that the man should be remanded in custody on probable cause, suspected of rape. This means he will remain in custody over the Christmas holidays.

– The court ordered detention until December 29, Ylva Lundgren informs.

Lundgren took over responsibility for the case against the accused politician during the week.

Denies Crime

The reported rape is said to have taken place indoors; according to the remand application, at the politician’s home address. The detained man is unmarried, and no one else is registered as living in his apartment.

Lundgren does not wish to explain the nature of the relationship between the detained politician and the complainant.

– There is some form of acquaintance. That’s all I can say, she says.

She also does not want to reveal anything about what has emerged during the forensic investigation or from the interviews.

– We are continuing with the investigation. I can’t say more than that, says Chief Prosecutor Ylva Lundgren.

According to the remand protocol, the SD politician denies the crime. Samnytt has also contacted his defense attorney.
