When medical students were asked to comment on a fictional case, humorous and immigration-critical remarks were made that were interpreted as “racist.” The perpetrators are deemed unsuitable to become doctors.

At Lund University, medical students were asked to leave anonymous comments through an online tool during an ongoing lecture.

The task was to comment on a fictional case where a foreign-born woman had been subjected to torture. Among the responses were comments such as “buy a ticket home” and suggestions to collaborate with the “Repatriation Authority.”

Should Not Become Doctors

– This is very serious, I would say it’s deplorable, it should not happen, says Thomas Hellmark, vice dean responsible for education at the medical faculty, to Swedish Radio.

According to Hellmark, the comments make the individuals who wrote them unsuitable to become doctors. If this had occurred during a practical period, they would have failed.
