On Tuesday, a police patrol was fired upon in the so-called especially vulnerable area of Husby in northwestern Stockholm. No one was injured, but a man has been arrested on suspicion of carrying out the act.

The alarm came in at 12:30 pm on Tuesday when a plainclothes police patrol was in a stairwell in connection with an assignment. During the operation, a man inside an apartment allegedly fired shots at the police officers with an object that resembled a weapon.

The officers returned fire in the stairwell and called for backup. Following the alarm, the regional intervention force, more commonly known as the SWAT team, was dispatched to the scene to assist in the arrest of the shooter.

Neither the officers nor the suspect are believed to have been injured in the incident. The arrested man is in his 40s and is currently suspected of attempted murder.

It remains unclear what case the police were handling in the stairwell and who the suspected perpetrator is. An object resembling a weapon has been seized, but it has not yet been determined whether it is an actual firearm.

At the same time, the legal classification of the crime may change depending on what the technical investigation reveals. According to authorities, it could either be a case of attempted murder or gross unlawful threats.

Shortly after the incident, the situation at the scene was reported to be under control. Meanwhile, nearby businesses and institutions took precautionary measures. A school in the area decided to keep students indoors for a period in the middle of the day.
