For nearly two decades, the woman worked as a nurse despite not having the required license. Now, the Health and Social Care Inspectorate (Ivo) has filed a criminal complaint.

The issue came to light during an audit of Ljusdal municipality, where it was discovered that a nurse lacked a valid license even though such a document was present in her personnel file. The document the woman had used, dated March 22, 2006, turned out never to have been issued by the National Board of Health and Welfare. In fact, she had not even completed her entire nursing training.

Ivo believes there is reasonable suspicion that the woman is guilty of document forgery and violated patient safety legislation by using the protected designation “licensed” and the professional title “nurse.” After the discovery, the woman was dismissed, and a Lex Maria investigation had already been launched.

New Procedures

Anna Johansson, HR Manager at Ljusdal municipality, previously told Ljusdals-Posten that “it is regrettable that this could go on without us discovering it sooner”.

Now stricter procedures have been introduced, where licenses are checked against the National Board of Health and Welfare’s register of health and medical personnel before employment.
