In a series of articles on Samnytt about what goes on inside what is perhaps Sweden’s most notorious authority, the Migration Agency, several hair-raising accounts have emerged. The articles have also received attention at the highest political levels and prompted the Sweden Democrats to put pressure on Migration Minister Johan Forssell regarding security in the agency’s case handling.
In two widely discussed articles, Samnytt has scrutinized the internal culture at the Migration Agency.
Part 1: Inside the Migration Agency: Clans, Swedes in the Minority, and a Culture of Silence.
Part 2: Testimonies from Inside the Migration Agency: “The Tidö Government Is the Enemy”.
The article series has also attracted political attention and consequences. In a written question submitted by Markus Wiechel (SD) to Migration Minister Johan Forssell (M), the reports from Samnytt’s articles are described as particularly troubling in light of previous investigations.

“According to an article published on the news site Samnytt, anonymous sources with long experience from the authority have reported a work culture where a majority of employees have foreign backgrounds, where staff in open-plan offices often group themselves based on language and ethnicity, and where languages other than Swedish are freely used in everyday conversations,” and the sources describe “how clan loyalties and foreign allegiances are said to affect case handling, including how employees actively work to facilitate residence permits, work permits, or other decisions for relatives and clan members,” writes Wiechel.

“If loyalties outside of the authority’s mission affect decision-making, it risks undermining the political reforms and the state’s control over one of its most central authorities,” the Sweden Democrat further notes.
Against this background, I wish to ask Migration Minister Johan Forssell:
How does the minister view these reports, and does the minister intend to take any action to ensure there is no negative impact on legal certainty in the processing of migration cases?
Markus Wiechel’s question was submitted on January 6 and will be answered on the 21st.
