A new opinion poll in Germany shows a clear shift in the political landscape, with the right-wing populist party Alternative for Germany (AfD) reaching its strongest support yet, while several traditional parties are losing ground.

According to the survey by polling institute YouGov, the national conservative Alternative for Germany now stands at 29 percent. At the same time, the Christian Democratic bloc CDU/CSU has fallen to 20 percent, its lowest level in several years.

The gap between the two largest parties thus increases to nine percentage points. Other parties are also shifting in the polls.

The Greens receive 14 percent, while both the Social Democratic Party of Germany and the Left Party are at 12 percent each. The Free Democratic Party is just above the threshold at 5 percent, and the Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance receives 4 percent.

The reason behind these changes is said to be growing dissatisfaction with the political situation in the country, where economic problems and internal conflicts within the government play a significant role. Debates about defense, pensions, healthcare, and social reforms are also impacting voter support.
