The Liberals continue to fare poorly in the polls. In several recent surveys, the party has been balancing just above two percent, but has now dropped even further, moving further and further away from the parliamentary threshold.

In June last year, Simona Mohamsson took over the leadership of the Liberals after Johan Pehrson suddenly decided to step down. She quickly made it clear that the Sweden Democrats must not be included in the next government and has spoken warmly of a “blue and yellow Islam.”

After a series of record lows, yet another came on Wednesday. In Verian’s January poll, the party receives 1.8 percent—the lowest figure ever measured by Verian, formerly known as Sifo.

“The opinion situation is serious. The Liberals are in a position where we need to be clearer about what we want and why we are needed,” writes party secretary Fredrik Brange in a written comment to Swedish state television.

The Opposition in the Lead

In a poll a week ago, the Liberals were joined below the threshold by both the Christian Democrats and the Centre Party. This time, both KD and C make it above.
