Denmark is sending military reinforcements to Greenland. This is reported by Danish Radio, citing “sources.”
According to the Danish public radio’s sources, these are advance troops or a forward command that have been sent to Greenland. Their task is reportedly to arrange logistics and make other preparations ahead of the arrival of a main force.
DR also reports that on Monday evening, a Challenger business jet belonging to the Danish Armed Forces landed at the airport in Nuuk. The passengers were picked up by a rental car with tinted windows.

DR emphasizes, however, that it is not known whether the plane is related to the Danish military buildup.
Danish Troops Brought Home
According to DR’s sources, units from the Danish Army are to be sent to Greenland. A large part of Denmark’s available peacetime military capabilities were tied up in the Baltics last autumn as part of a NATO mission to “deter” Russia.

However, last month Denmark brought home a large part of these forces, around 800 soldiers, along with their equipment. And some of them may now be deployed to Greenland instead.

There is speculation that the background to the Danish military escalation is the threat that US President Donald Trump will order an attack on the island.
Danish Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen (V) spoke openly on Tuesday about an increased Danish military presence in Greenland, but also about soldiers from other NATO countries. “A clear response to the challenge facing the Arctic,” he said, without going into further detail.
Greenland Is Not for Sale
On Tuesday, Greenland’s Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen repeated his message that the island is not for sale.
– One thing everyone must understand: Greenland does not want to be owned by the USA. Greenland does not want to be governed by the USA. Greenland does not want to be a part of the USA, he said at a press conference with Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen.

Nielsen, who was born in Greenland to a Greenlandic mother and a Danish father who moved to Greenland as a child, took office as leader of the autonomous government in March last year.

Since taking office, Jens-Frederik Nielsen has repeatedly made it clear that the island is not for sale; a red line towards the USA, supported by all parties in Greenland’s parliament except one.
The exception is the opposition party Naleraq. It is a centrist populist party that gathers just under a quarter of voters and advocates immediate Greenlandic independence.
Naleraq does not want Greenland to be ruled by either Denmark or the USA, but its representatives have at the same time called for pragmatism and argue that it is better to negotiate with the USA than to be invaded.
Trump Ignores Greenland’s Plea
But the fact that a majority of Greenlanders do not want to submit to American rule is not something Trump cares about. When asked on Tuesday about the Greenlandic Prime Minister’s rejection of the USA, he replied:

– That’s their problem. That’s their problem. I don’t agree with them. I do not know who he is. I know nothing about him. But it’s going to be a big problem for him.
And on Wednesday, the same day his Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio are scheduled to meet a Danish-Greenlandic delegation in Washington, he repeats his Greenland demand in a post on his own site TruthSocial:
“The USA needs Greenland for national security reasons. It is crucial for the Golden Dome we are building,” he wrote, urging the NATO alliance to lead efforts to make Greenland American-controlled.
“NATO will be considerably more powerful and effective with Greenland in US hands. Anything less than that is unacceptable,” President Trump concluded.
