When the autumn term began last year, 29 children were missing from Örebro’s schools. When the spring term recently started, the number had risen to 36 missing children. In some cases, police reports have been filed.

Despite the municipality’s efforts last autumn to gather information about the missing children, no one knew where they were. There were, however, suspicions that some cases might involve so-called honor-related issues, and a few cases led to police reports.

According to this year’s figures obtained by Nerikes Allehanda, the situation is now even worse, with 36 missing children after the Christmas holidays.

— This is just how it is, it goes up and down. We manage to reach some students, but then others disappear. We visit families at home, try to get information in various ways, but sometimes we still don’t get any answers about where the children have gone, Örebro’s head of schools, Katarina Arkehag, told the newspaper.

According to Arkehag, the school makes a notification of concern to social services at the slightest suspicion, but sometimes children suddenly disappear without any warning. Cases where illegal activity is suspected are also reported to the police, and right now there are four police reports.
