French President Emmanuel Macron’s popularity has dropped to a record low of 18 percent. At the same time, he has long been portrayed as one of the more influential leaders within the EU.

According to the Odoxa-Mascaret barometer for Public Sénat and the regional press, reported among others by 20 Minutes, only 18 percent of those surveyed consider Emmanuel Macron to be a good president.

This marks a decline of seven percentage points compared to the end of June and is the lowest level in the history of the survey. Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu has dropped eight points to 24 percent.

The sharp decline is said to be due, among other things, to widespread dissatisfaction with how the government has handled the high fuel prices.

Better Prospects for the Nationalists

Ahead of the presidential campaign, the duo Marine Le Pen and Jordan Bardella from the national-conservative party National Rally continue to lead when the French are asked which politicians they support or sympathize with. Both are at 35 percent, although support has dropped by four and five percentage points, respectively.
