A chant directed at the police during the Pride parade in Malmö has sparked criticism against the Left Party. In a video, participants in the party’s section of the march can be heard shouting, “all of Malmö hates the police.”

The incident occurred on Saturday in connection with this year’s Malmö Pride, during which the traditional Pride parade marched through the city.

As usual, several political parties participated in the parade. During the event, a video clip from the celebration has gone viral.

@thinkblue.opinion Disgusting behavior from the Left Party. And then the Malmö Left’s chairman simply says, “That’s not how you should interpret it.” #politik #fyp #moderat #vänster ♬ original sound – ThinkBlue!

The Party Handles the Crisis

Following the media attention, the leadership of the Left Party has commented on the incident. The Left Party’s local branch in Malmö states that the chant was not an official party slogan during the Pride march.

Jonas Lindberg, a member of the party’s executive committee and also a regional councilor in Stockholm, further states that the party will address the incident internally to ensure it does not happen again.

“I think it’s a clearly inappropriate way to express oneself,” he told TT.

Minister of Justice: “Absolutely Scandalous”

The incident has also sparked reactions from the government. Minister of Justice Gunnar Strömmer (M) sharply criticizes what is heard in the video, calling it absolutely scandalous.

“So, the Left Party in Malmö hates the police. Hates. I think of all the thousands of police officers who wake up every day, go to work and do everything they can so that the rest of us can feel safe and secure, and so that our children are not drawn into crime and misery,” the minister writes on social media, and also adds:

“They do not deserve hatred. They deserve respect, appreciation, and the care of us all.”
