The Ukraine issue has “existential significance for Sweden”. That was the message conveyed by Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson in a phone call with the incoming President of the United States, Donald Trump, in November this year, as revealed by Samnytt.
It was on November 18 this year that Sweden’s Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson finally had the opportunity to speak on the phone with Donald Trump, who had been elected as the next President of the United States two weeks earlier.

However, when Samnytt contacted the government offices to obtain the contents of the conversation, we were informed that it had been classified as secret.
“Certain information in the attached document concerns Sweden’s relations with another state or otherwise concerns another state or intergovernmental organization. It can be assumed that it would disrupt Sweden’s international relations or otherwise harm the country if the information were disclosed,” the decision by government officials justified.
They then attached a summary of the conversation with a large black box covering it.
The Ukraine issue
Samnytt appeals the decision of the officials to the government. And on Monday, the day before Christmas Eve, the government agreed to disclose a previously classified sentence from Kristersson’s conversation with Trump.
“PM explained the existential significance of the Ukraine issue for Sweden.” is a previously classified sentence from the summary of the conversation with Donald Trump.
The decision to disclose this detail from the conversation was made by Defense Minister Pål Jonson (M), on behalf of the government, and the legal expert Jens Andersson at the government offices.
Otherwise, the conversation between Kristersson and Trump remains classified as secret.
“The rest of the document contains information relating to Sweden’s relations with the United States of America. It can be assumed that it would disrupt Sweden’s international relations or otherwise harm the country if the information were disclosed,” wrote Jonson and Andersson in the decision.
