A pro-Palestinian demonstration outside Karolinska University Hospital in Solna has sparked strong reactions after several participants were seen wearing medical work uniforms while chanting political slogans, including “From the river to the sea.” Samnytt sought an interview with those responsible at Karolinska regarding the event, but the hospital declined to answer questions and instead referred to a short written statement.
The demonstration was held next to the main entrance, in front of the Karolinska logo, where patients, relatives, and staff passed by. In video clips from the event, participants can be heard chanting slogans and expressing their support for the Palestinian cause.
One of the slogans heard in the video material reviewed by Samnytt is “From the river to the sea,” a phrase that many interpret as a call for the dissolution of the state of Israel.

What has stirred debate most is that several participants wore medical work uniforms during the demonstration.
In its written statement, Karolinska notes that the demonstration was not organized by the hospital and took place in a public area outside of hospital grounds.

The hospital also states that work uniforms may only be used in the workplace and within the hospital area. It further notes that any violations of these rules are to be addressed in dialogue with the individuals involved.

“Infants shot in the head”
During her speech outside Karolinska University Hospital, a Swedish female doctor who introduced herself as “Natte” made very serious accusations against Israel.
The speech also contained several other exceptionally far-reaching allegations. The doctor claimed that Palestinian doctors had been abused, tortured, and “raped to death” while in Israeli captivity. She also said that Israeli soldiers deliberately shoot infants “in the throat and head.”
Among other things, she alleged that Israel murders innocent children, adults, healthcare staff, and journalists, described the war as an ongoing genocide, and demanded that the “:censored:6:cdd6bbaa89: power institutions” intervene.

The doctor also sharply criticized the Swedish Medical Association. She claimed that the association had refused to condemn what she called Israel’s “new race-based execution law” and stated that its neutrality represents “an active position in favor of executions on ethnic grounds.”

According to the speaker, Palestinian doctors and other healthcare staff have “systematically been executed or imprisoned,” and she concluded with the words: “If you cannot condemn the execution of healthcare staff and children, you should not be allowed to call yourself a doctor.”
The speech also contained several other exceptionally far-reaching allegations. The doctor claimed that Palestinian doctors had been abused, tortured, and “raped to death” while in Israeli captivity. She also said that Israeli soldiers deliberately shoot infants “in the throat and head.”
Finally, she reiterated the demand to “stop the genocide” and that detained Palestinian healthcare staff be released.
Many Questions Remain Unanswered
Karolinska has chosen not to participate in any interview with Samnytt. As a result, a number of questions remain unanswered by the hospital.

For example, it is still unclear how many of the demonstrators actually work at Karolinska, whether any internal investigation has been launched, and if any employees have violated the hospital’s own guidelines for the use of work uniforms.
Nor has the hospital wanted to answer whether any patients or relatives have been in contact following the demonstration or whether any disciplinary actions might be under consideration.

For many Swedish Jews, the issue is not just about a political demonstration, but about what confidence they can have in the healthcare system.

When people acting as doctors or other healthcare staff participate in a demonstration where Israel is accused of genocide, “race-based execution laws,” and other very broad abuses, while slogans such as “From the river to the sea” are heard in the crowd, it can cause concern among Jewish patients about seeking care.

The issue becomes especially sensitive when the demonstration takes place directly adjacent to one of Sweden’s largest university hospitals and several participants are wearing medical uniforms.
For Jewish patients, the central question is not the political opinions of healthcare staff per se, but whether healthcare is perceived as a place where everyone is treated with the same professionalism and respect.

How many of the demonstrators were employed at Karolinska, whether any internal investigation is ongoing, whether any disciplinary actions may become relevant, and how the hospital views Jewish patients’ confidence in healthcare are all questions that Karolinska has thus chosen not to answer.
