The legacy of the Social Democrats and the Green Party lives on. With the coldest February in 16 years, another price rally for electricity occurred this winter. In Jokkmokk, people have had enough and are now uniting in an electricity rebellion.

In Norrbotten and Västerbotten, temperatures have at times dropped well below minus 30 degrees Celsius, causing electricity prices to soar in the opposite direction.

In Jokkmokk, residents through the municipality have been exposed to the country’s largest producer of renewable electricity, which has turned out to be anything but an economically sustainable investment.

Now a movement has begun with demands for, among other things, lower electricity prices, domestic electricity trading, lower electricity tariffs in the two northern electricity areas, and the removal of VAT on electricity.

Anna Hövenmark is the initiator of the electricity rebellion.

– If nothing happens, I guess we’ll have to go to Stockholm and just barricade ourselves in a box outside the parliament like it’s been done before. This is not going to end, it’s just the beginning, she tells TV4.

On Monday, the Facebook group Electricity Rebellion Norrbotten had 3,000 members, with the ambition to spread the movement, and on March 18th demonstrate in the central towns of Norrbotten.

– It has spread to several municipalities, but we would like more here in Norrbotten, and preferably in Västerbotten as well. It’s an important issue for us, says Hövenmark to the national broadcaster.
