After several twists and turns in the Jeffrey Epstein case, the House of Representatives voted on Tuesday to release the entire investigation into the convicted pedophile and his activities. Now, only President Donald Trump’s approval remains.
Jeffrey Epstein was the wealthy financier who associated with the world’s elite but also lured young women into his shady operations. He is believed to have enticed politicians and other high-ranking individuals to meet with the young women and documented everything to later be able to blackmail them. There are also suspicions that he may have worked for an intelligence service.
Immediately after the House of Representatives voted yes, the Senate also approved without a vote. To release the entire Epstein investigation, only a signature from Trump and an order to the Department of Justice are required.
After having spoken about releasing everything about Epstein before last year’s election, Trump seems to have become less inclined to actually do so once he became president. After extensive criticism from large parts of his own supporters, it seemed that Trump at least partially changed course and gave in to the demands last summer.

Even if Trump were to sign, the Department of Justice still has the ability to make certain restrictions. According to the text of the Congress proposal, exceptions can be made, for example, for information related to ongoing criminal investigations, as well as personal information that ‘would constitute an obviously unwarranted invasion of privacy’.
In August 2019, Jeffrey Epstein was found lifeless in his cell at the Manhattan detention center. His death is surrounded by several question marks.
