After placing an order via Foodora, a woman was raped by a 35-year-old Syrian man. She cried and repeatedly said no, but the Syrian continued. According to the district court, the act is akin to an assault rape. He is now sentenced to prison – but since he has become a Swedish citizen, he cannot be deported.

The incident occurred on September 19, 2025, when a woman celebrated a successful job interview by drinking alcohol at home in her ex-boyfriend’s apartment. Late at night, she became hungry and decided to order pizza via Foodora.

She saw that there was only one restaurant still open and ordered from there. Hours passed, and the woman grew impatient as the pizza never arrived. She called the restaurant, who assured her that the food was on its way.

At 3:27 AM, Syrian national Shehab Hashim, 35, left the pizzeria and headed toward the woman’s apartment. A few minutes later, he called her to say the pizza was on its way and that she could come and open the door.

The woman then went out to receive the food, but Hashim insisted on carrying the food into the apartment. She thought he was being polite, though it struck her as slightly unusual behavior.

She walked into the apartment first, and Hashim followed her. He put the food in the kitchen while the woman walked further inside. She assumed he was about to leave.

“Now we just need to do this too”

Suddenly, she felt Hashim push her forward in the back, causing her to end up on all fours on the floor. He then pulled down her sweatpants and underwear and raped her from behind. While doing so, he told her, “now we just need to do this too.”

She cried and said no several times, but Hashim neither responded nor reacted. When he finally left, she searched for her phone and called 112.

The assault has left deep wounds in the woman, who, after the incident, received support in psychiatric care and began treatment for PTSD.

Hashim: She spat on me

Hashim tells a completely different version than the woman’s. He claims that when he arrived with the delivery, the woman was “very angry and upset” that it had taken so long. He says he merely handed her the pizza outside, and that the woman then spat in his face.

It’s worth noting that Hashim claimed the woman spat on him only after an analysis found her DNA on his underpants. Hashim’s DNA was also found on the woman’s underwear.

Furthermore, he insists he was never inside the apartment, but instead went to his car, drove home, and went to sleep.

“Akin to an assault rape”

Borås District Court writes that it is established that Hashim delivered the food to the woman, and that the question is whether he raped the woman in the apartment or not.

Initially, the court notes that the woman’s testimony is detailed, vivid, and without clear signs of exaggeration or implausibility. They therefore consider her account credible enough to base their judgment of guilt on it.

They also point out that Hashim’s DNA was found on the woman’s underwear and that he could not give a reasonable explanation for this.

Finally, the court concludes that the crime, which they say “almost appears as an assault rape,” is proven and should be judged as rape.

Shehab Hashim is therefore convicted of rape. He is also convicted of molestation and child abuse in another case. The sentence is 4 years in prison, and he must also pay 250,000 SEK in damages to the victimized woman.

Could not verify his identity

Shehab Hashim applied for residence permit in Sweden in 2013 and was soon after granted permanent residency. He later applied for Swedish citizenship, but his application was denied in 2021 because he lacked identity documents from his home country and could not verify his identity.

The decision was appealed to the Migration Court, which followed the Migration Agency’s recommendation and rejected the appeal.

Later that same year, he submitted a new application and was this time granted Swedish citizenship. This means he can no longer be deported to his former home country, even if he is convicted of a serious violent crime.
