She fled the war in Ukraine but encountered a Syrian migrant in Germany. Before 19-year-old Maria could report 17-year-old Mohamed to the police, he killed her.
The family came to Germany from Ukraine about three years ago. After escaping war and violence, the mother and twin sister must now cope with her death.
One day before Maria was scheduled to appear at the police station, she was murdered. Mohamed is said to have first struck her and then killed her with a branch.

“They haven’t allowed me to see my daughter yet. I want to say goodbye to her,” the mother told Bild.

Unaccompanied Minor
Mohamed came to Germany as an “unaccompanied minor” from Syria in 2022 and had been together with Maria for about a year. They attended the same school.

“At first, I liked him a lot. But about a month ago, the atmosphere changed. I told him several times not to come to our house anymore,” the mother says.
Became Violent
But Mohamed hung around outside the family’s house and became violent. Maria’s mother describes brutal fights, and her daughter wanted to break up with him.
She wanted to report him for assault but never got the chance. Now, Mohamed is in custody awaiting trial.
