In a campaign, the Danish party Danmarksdemokraterne targets climate extremists who regularly carry out sabotage against, among other things, car traffic. The movement’s figurehead, Greta Thunberg, is also no longer welcome, and they do not want to see her in the country again.

Climate extremists who come together to block morning traffic should be punished much more severely than they are today. That is the message in the new election campaign “Stop Illegal Activists” from the national conservative Danmarksdemokraterne.

“I am extremely irritated by the troublemakers who stop traffic, and I simply think we should put an end to it,” says party leader Inger Støjberg, former Minister for Immigration and Integration, to TV 2.

She argues that “if a bunch of left-leaning climate activists and troublemakers” show up and disrupt traffic, it affects the tradesperson on their way to work and the parents who need to drop off their children – and at worst, it could prevent an ambulance or emergency vehicle from arriving on time.

At the same time, she emphasizes that it only concerns unregistered demonstrations that they want to put a stop to.

The party is proposing seven measures to limit activists’ ability to “disturb public order or pose a security threat.” This includes, among other things, higher fines, ensuring that the fines reflect the actual loss to society, and entry bans for foreign activists.

Wants to Ban Greta

Even though the party mentions Extinction Rebellion and pro-Palestinian protesters as examples of groups whose activism should be restricted, the rules could in principle apply to any political stance.

Another person mentioned specifically is Swedish Greta Thunberg, who has traveled to Denmark several times to take part in illegal demonstrations and acts of sabotage. Thunberg is an example of the kind of person Danmarksdemokraterne wants to be able to deny entry.

“We simply should not be a playground for Greta Thunberg and her associates. We simply should not.”

Facts about Danmarksdemokraterne

In 2022, Støjberg announced that she had founded the party Danmarksdemokraterne. Formally, the party association is called Danmarksdemokraterne – Inger Støjberg, which is the name approved by the electoral authority. In just over a week, they managed to gather enough signatures to qualify to participate in the next parliamentary election.

Støjberg describes the party as a liberal interest party for ordinary people with an understanding of the country’s development outside Copenhagen. In addition to a strict immigration policy, they have three additional main issues – cohesion between city and countryside, support for small and medium-sized businesses, and dignified care for the elderly.

In the parliamentary election in November 2022, Danmarksdemokraterne became the fifth largest party with 8.1 percent of the votes. Highlighted in a political campaign. “Extremely irritated by the troublemakers.”
