On Wednesday, Samnytt reported that Djurgårdens IF’s boxing coach had made death threats against party leaders Gustav Kasselstrand and Jimmie Åkesson. The man, a professional boxer born in Senegal, stated, among other things, that “people like that should be killed” and added that one “has to do an Olof Palme.” Samnytt then contacted DIF to get the club’s perspective on the coach’s statements and whether someone can represent the boxing club while making death threats against Swedish politicians. Now, the board announces that the coach is forced to leave the club.
The case concerns Aldo Colliander, 48, who has a professional career behind him and in recent years has been active as a coach at Djurgårdens boxing association in Stockholm.
In the 2000s, Colliander was one of Sweden’s top heavyweight boxers and competed internationally. But in 2009, Colliander was convicted in Stockholm District Court for, among other things, aggravated violation of women’s integrity, assault against a public official, assault, unlawful threats, harassment, and driving without a license.
According to the verdict, he had, among other things, shown up at his then girlfriend’s apartment, pushed her, dragged her into an elevator, and said he would kill her.
On several occasions, he had also sent death threats to the woman via email and threatened her father by phone. He was also convicted for previous violent crimes, including hitting a security guard outside a nightclub and assaulting another man in a nightclub restroom.
After forensic psychiatric assessments, the court determined that the crimes had been committed under the influence of a serious mental disorder. Colliander was sentenced to forensic psychiatric care, a sentence he has not managed to have overturned despite several appeals.

“The solution is to kill”
Most recently at the beginning of summer, Aldo Colliander claimed he had left his criminal past behind him and has since been involved as a coach at Djurgårdens boxing club. However, alongside his boxing engagements, he has been regularly active in various live streams on social media, where he frequently discusses politics with others.
It was also in one such broadcast, which lasted at least 40 minutes, that Djurgården’s coach expressed his hatred towards anti-immigration parties such as Alternative for Sweden and the Sweden Democrats. He specifically targeted AFS leader Gustav Kasselstrand and SD leader Jimmie Åkesson, saying they should be killed.

– This guy is dangerous, he needs to be stopped. You have to do a Palme on him. He is dangerous. You have to do an Olof Palme on him. That’s how bad it is. You have to do an Olof Palme on Gustav Kasselstrand. He is an idiot.
When asked during the broadcast what should be done about the problems in Sweden and the world, the boxing coach replied that SD leader Jimmie Åkesson should be murdered and Gustav Kasselstrand’s party erased.
– The solution is to kill people like Jimmie Åkesson and AFS, he said.
Så ska Alternativ för Sverige stoppas från en valframgång:
“Man måste göra en Olof Palme på Gustav Kasselstrand. Han ska försvinna.”
Även Jimmie Åkesson ska dödas, varnar han.

Boxer: “It got out of hand”
When Samnytt contacted coach Aldo Colliander to ask why he had expressed himself in this way, he suddenly distanced himself from his statements made during the more than 40-minute broadcast.
He explained among other things his actions with the words:
What the clip doesn’t show is the context, comments, and provocations that led up to the situation. The video is edited so that the most extreme statements appear first, without what preceded them. The background to my reaction was that I strongly oppose xenophobia, but I let myself be provoked and it got out of hand. It was wrong.

DIF: “With Immediate Effect”
On Wednesday, Samnytt also contacted the leadership of Djurgårdens IF’s boxing division to ask whether it aligns with the club’s values to have a coach who simultaneously makes death threats against party leaders.
After reading Samnytt’s article, the board of DIF Boxing announced that they no longer have confidence in Aldo Colliander and that he therefore has no further role within the organization.
How does Djurgårdens IF Boxing view the fact that one of the club’s coaches is making severe threats of violence and death against Swedish party leaders?
– DIF Boxing, of course, views this seriously and definitely distances itself from Aldo’s statements.
Does the club still have confidence in Aldo Colliander as a coach, and do you believe he can continue to work within the club?
– Aldo has been a well-liked coach at the club, but after the statements and social media posts he has recently made, we have immediately suspended him from all club activities.
How do you think Djurgårdens IF’s members view a coach expressing himself this way about politicians?
– Our members probably see this the same way we do, that is, they distance themselves from these opinions and posts. That is why we have now suspended Aldo.
